Bakery Products: New Way For Business Opportunities

Bakery Industry: In India it is the largest of the food industries with an annual turnover of more than Rs. 3000 crore since the year 2003. India takes the pride in being the second largest producer of biscuits after USA. The biscuit industry in India comprises of organized and unorganized sectors. Bread and Biscuits form the major baked foods accounting for over 80% of total bakery products produced in the country.

Bakery Products: The market for the bakery products witnessed a turning point in the later part of 20th century. The contributing factors were urbanization, resulting in increased demand for ready to eat products at reasonable costs. The bakery units since then have been unevenly spread among various states. These are mainly concentrated in the States of Maharashtra, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. Amongst them states like Maharashtra and West Bengal can boast of large number of bakery units. “Biscuits” have emerged to be the king of all the bakery products with nearly 55% of consumption only in the rural sector alone.

B2B Trading Organizations

Manufacturers: Suppliers and manufacturers across India and the globe are getting together to take this sector to higher levels of success and profit. There are various local manufacturers and suppliers who help in creating the successful network to serve the end users. For instance, Imperial Malts Ltd, Sunrise Exports, Indo Foods, Spectrum International to name a few among the array of manufacturers.

Suppliers: Similarly, under suppliers, we have Blue Bird Food Products, Suleiman Mithaiwala, Shellz Overseas Pvt Ltd, Sampre Choco Ltd, to name a few.

Bakery Product Associations: Apart from the above Indian organizations there exist certain international associations too which form an umbrella for the various B2B channels. They are:-

BEMA (Bakery Equipments Manufacturers Association):
  • BEMA was formed to realize the need to provide consumers with the highest quality products and services at the lowest possible price since 1918.
  • BEMA is an international, non-profit trade association representing leading bakery and food equipment manufacturers and suppliers.
  • BEMA offers a variety of membership benefits and services aimed at helping members to improve their business operations and keep abreast of industry activities.
  • Apart from the business opportunities, BEMA supports the industry through funding scholarships and education in this direction.

BESA (Bakery Equipment Suppliers Association).

  • BESA is the only equipment association in Australia formed specifically to support the baking industry. Major importers, distributors, manufacturers and suppliers in Australia of bakery equipment have formed this association.
  • Likewise, other countries within and outside their boundaries have taken steps to form various associations networking various suppliers to support the baking industry in their areas.

Conclusion: To summarise the rising and the flow of the present baking industry we find that although the market is constituted of both organized and unorganized sectors;in the whole, there lies an intense effort to systematize the process right from supplying the raw materials to manufacturing to distributing and finally reaching the end users.
